Olipa jälleen vaikea työ valita kuvia tätä blogia varten; laitoin myös vähän normaalia enemmän kuvia esille juuri siksi. Häät olivat vallan mainiot ja muita hääbändejä yhtään väheksymättä sai tunnelman kattoon tanssien alkaessa.

Again it was very difficult to choose the photos for this blog post, thus there are a bit more photos than usual. The wedding was so much fun and without diminishing any other wedding bands Discotransit raised the atmosphere through the roof.

Hei taas!

Hello again! The spring is advancing rapidly and soon it will be summer again with new weddings. Here are some photographs from Harri’s and Niina’s wedding from last summer.

Winter Wedding

Hei kaikille!

Hello all! I changed the order a liltte bit and this blog post is about a wedding in Kajaani just before the Christmas. In this wedding I was assisting the multi-talented Anna Jarske and it gave me an opportunity to shoot a bit differently this time. Even though the reception was near the place where i did my military service the atmosphere was just amazing and everyone had a lot of fun.

Midsummer Wedding

Hei kaikki!

Hello all! Here is a quick post from Jarmo’s and Kaisa’s wedding last midsummer in the idyllic milieu of the Toppila estate not very far from the center of Oulu. If I am not able to make a new post before Christmas I wish you all very happy Christmas and wonderful New Year!

New Blog Post

I am really sorry that I haven’t updated my blog in a while, but the summer was so busy with all the wonderful weddings and other stuff that I somehow forgot about this. I am just saying that I will be blogging about last summer’s weddings now regularly and I try to post one new entry per week for some time now. I will also inform about the updates on the front page of my website.

Are your news free?

In Uncategorized on March 4, 2009 at 9:21 am

Not so long ago I was photographing an event that had a lot of national interest as a news item. I think that I did a pretty good job with my photographs as I was able to cover the variety of the people that were attending. I had emotions in my photograph, it was clear that these people believed in their cause, also my photographs formed a nice storylinefor the event and covered the general atmosphere.

After the event I contacted many news outlets and sent them a small gallery of my photographs. A little while later I was contacted by a press agency and three leading Finnish news sites. They all told me pretty much the same thing: “Your photographs are wonderful and we would really like to use them.”

“Can we use them for free?” To a couple of these emails I answered that of course not, I did a great deal of work and put a lot of effort into my photographs and a name in the newspaper will not pay my bills. I have had my (paid) photographs published in almost all of the leading Finnish newspapers and I had no reason to agree to that, nor does any photographer for that matter. To one email I answered with a reply that if I can use their news for free on my website. Needless to say I didn’t get a second reply to that nor did I get to any of my other messages.

Looking at the sites and the print editions the next day I found that many of the publications did not run a photograph with this story and one site had a horrible still-capture from a video with no context at all. All in all this is a pretty sad story, not for my part, but for the news industry because it is coming clearer that they are not willing to put effort into their journalism anymore and are cutting costs in every turn and this in turn is hurting their businesses as much as anything else.
